It’s a Wonderful Life in Seneca Falls, NY

by on December 24, 2013

Every December, Seneca Falls transforms. Rumor has it that Bedford Falls, the setting of the classic movie It’s a Wonderful Lifeis based on our town.

“[Director Frank Capra] always said Bedford Falls represented little slices of small towns that he had visited all across America. We’re not in a position to dispute that,” said Francis Caraccilo, a trustee for the Seneca Falls It’s a Wonderful Life Museum, in a recent interview with Newsday. “We just think we’re a bigger slice.”

Regardless of veracity, this town doubtless is one of the best places in America to celebrate Christmas. Many of us students vacated town already to be with our families for the holidays during our two-week hiatus, but I was able to capture a little of that It’s a Wonderful Life phenomenon before I began my drive.

In my family, the movie is a Christmas eve tradition. Tomorrow I’ll bring you a few more pictures of holiday festivities in Seneca Falls.
