The Word ‘Chiropractic’

by on October 3, 2012

Chiropractic is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “a system of therapy which holds that disease results from a lack of normal nerve function and which employs manipulation and specific adjustment of body structures.”

This word may be used as either a noun:

Chiropractic is a health care profession.

I am studying chiropractic.

or as an adjective:

Yesterday I went to the chiropractic office.

As an athlete I have had several chiropractic adjustments.

The word’s less intuitive use is due to its roots in Ancient Greek.
